TOUGH COMPETITION AND GOOD RACING
The final round of the 2020 South African Rok Cup took place at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday 12 December and the RS Kart team experienced mixed results amidst some tough competition.
Maddox Mason had a very consistent day. He qualified 5th and maintained this position to the flag in race one. He finished 6th in race two and took another 5th place in finish in the final heat. He ended the day 5th overall.
Troy van der Laan qualified 6th and made up a position to end the first heat 5th. He took 5th again in race two and crossed the finish line 6th in race three. Troy ended 5th overall for the day.
Mattao Mason drove hard to qualify on the 4th row of the grid. He made steady progress throughout the day, finishing 7th in race one, 6th in race two and 5th in race three. Mattao finished 6th in the overall standings.
Ewan Venter put in a strong qualifying lap to set the 7th best lap time. He had a good first heat to take the flag 6th, but his progress was hampered by a DNF in heat two. Ewan recovered to 8th in the final heat and took 7th overall.
Luke Hill’s weekend started off well, but ended in disaster. He qualified 11th and finished 13th in heat one. Luke made up a lot of ground in race two, to finish 9th. Unfortunately, a massive lap one crash saw Luke retire from the final heat of the day.
It was quite an introduction to Mini Rok for Kegan Martin. He qualified 19th and held onto this position in a fairly conservative first heat. He took 18th in heat two and 15th in race three. Kegan ended the day 16th overall.
It was a tough weekend for Carlo Olivier, but the KZ2 driver held strong. He qualified 9th and made up some ground to finish 7th in the first heat. He earned 6th place in race two before dropping to 8th in the last race. Carlo finished 7th for the day.
Despite the tough competition, the team enjoyed the opportunity to race as they begin their preparations for the 2021 season.
