Mohammed Moerat – NR Rotax Review

Mohammed Moerat

Mohammed Moerat had a good showing at the first round of the 2020 Northern Regions Rotax Max Challenge, which took place at the new Formula K Circuit in Benoni on Saturday (29 February).

The qualifying session wasn’t as closely contested as expected, with the pole sitter a full 1.5 seconds faster than the rest of the field. Mohammed set the 2nd fastest lap, but was clearly concern by his lack of pace.

The first race was a tough one and it became evident that Mohammed’s kart was experiencing some technical gremlins. He drove well to take the flag in third place.

There are many drivers who can drive a fast kart fast, but very few that can drive a slow kart fast. Mohammed did just that, showing his grit and determination as he adapted his driving to compensate for his misbehaving kart. In doing so, he claimed 2nd place in both remaining heats.

Mohammed’s fighting spirit earned him 2nd overall for the day.

Motorsport rarely plays out according to script and Mohammed is feeling confident that the race win won’t elude him for very long. He will come back swinging at the next round, which will take place on 9 May 2020.

The first round of the National Championship, which is Mohammed’s primary focus, will take place at iDube and the end of March.
