Luke Hill – NR Rok Cup Review

Luke Hill

It was an epic weekend for Luke Hill who achieved podium finishes in both the Kid Rok and Mini Rok classes at the 7th round of the 2019 Northern Regions Rok Cup, held at Zwartkops on 28 September.

Luke qualified on pole position in Kid Rok and took a fairly easy race one win. He looked set to repeat this performance in heat two, but unfortunately, was forced out of the race with a technical issue. He was in the lead at the time. Luke was back to his winning ways in the final race, taking the flag in the number one spot and securing first place in the overall standings for the day.

Mini Rok produced some of the most exciting racing of the day. Luke qualified 11th and finished the first heat in 10th place, but race two served as a turning point of sorts for Luke. He managed to leap frog a gaggle of drivers who had became embroiled in some bumping and barging. Luke was now lying in 2nd place. Amazingly (given his age), Luke was able to keep pace with the race leader and you could visibly see a change in his body language as his confidence levels soared. He held this position to the flag.

The final Mini Rok race was a sight to behold. Luke rocketed past the field at the start, catapulting himself into the lead. He lost the position a lap or so later, but continued to challenge for the win right up to the flag. Luke finished 2nd in the race and earned the silver in the overall results. Needless to say, he also won the under 10 division. New found confidence in hand, Luke will now tackle his International racing debut. He is off to Italy, where he will compete in Mini Rok in the Autumn Cup from 5 – 7 October and the Rok Cup World Final from 11 – 13 October. Luke will be competing as part of the Praga Italy Factory Team.
