TROPHIES AND ACTION PACKED RACING
The Birelart South Africa Official team had a good weekend at iDube Raceway, where they competed in the third round of the SA Rotax Max Championship on Saturday 10 August 2019.
After dominating the Bambino class earlier this year, Tshepang Shisinwana just hasn’t had the same pace for the second half of the year. He qualified 5th and had a terrible first heat, finishing 10th. Tshepang improved slightly in heat two, to finish 7th. A better drive saw him claim 5th in the final heat, but 8th overall for the day is not what the youngster is accustomed to.
Mattao Mason put in some consistent driving. He qualified in 10th and made up a few place to finish 7th in race one. Mattao finished 8th in race two and 10th in the final heat. His results placed him 10th overall for the day.
Dhivyen Naidoo drove his heart out to be amongst the front runners in Micro Max. He had his work cut out for him after qualifying down in 8th, but the KZN based driver exceeded expectations by finishing the first race in 3rd place. He took 4th in heat two, but a nose cone penalty relegated him down to 8th in the final heat. Dhivyen finished 4th overall.
The term “nose cone” will be giving Matthew Morrell nightmares for the next few days. After qualifying 2nd in Mini Max, Matthew managed to keep the competition at bay, to hold the position to the finish line. Whilst he crossed the line 2nd in heat two, a nose cone penalty dropped him to 6th. Another nose cone penalty in heat three dropped Matthew from 2nd to 7th. Matthew ended the day 4th overall, but it could have quite easily been 2nd.
Shrien Naidoo capitalised on his home ground advantage, putting his Senior Max kart on pole position. He took a lights to flag victory in race one and repeated his winning performance in heat two. A 3rd place finish in the final race was enough to earn Shrien the number one spot in the overall results.
Connor Donovan had a solid weekend. After qualifying 7th, Connor put in a hard charge to move through the field. Unfortunately, his progress was hampered by a nose cone penalty and he was classified 6th. He took 6th place in race two and 5th in the final heat, which placed him 6th overall for the day.
Liam Crystal, on holiday from the UAE, also entered the event and competed in Senior Max. He has become a very exciting driver to watch and continues to impress. Liam qualified in 8th, but was unable to complete the first heat. He more than made up for this in race two, by finishing 2nd. Liam finished 2nd in the final heat as well and ended the weekend 5th in the overall standings.
Bradley Liebenberg qualified 3rd in DD2 and finished the first race in 2nd place. He took 3rd in heat two, before claiming a race win in the final heat. Bradley took silver in the overall results.
Dominic Lincoln qualified down in 11th, but had a blistering first race to finish 5th. The entire team was rooting for him in race two, where took 2nd place and his first podium in the National DD2 championship. Dominic finished 4th in race three and ended the day 3rd in the overall standings.
